The Redemption of Thomas Shelby
Final UK Show at Sadler's Wells 2025
"...while Simone Damberg Würtz is a forceful presence as Polly,
the Shelbys' fierce matriarch."

by Debra Craine for The Times

"Simone Damberg Würtz, as a rather terrifying Polly Gray, impressed with her acting as much as her dancing"
by Deborah Weiss for Bachtrack

"and Aunt Polly (Simone Damberg Würtz in imperious form) lend a hand, the latter whispering wisdom into Tommy’s ear when not pointing the business end of a shotgun at any enemies in range."
by Franco Milazzo for Broadway World

"Women crime bosses too: they took over when the men were away, as tough if not tougher than the men—namely Polly (Simone Damberg Würtz, machine gun over her shoulder, in the Helen McCrory role)"

by Vera Liber for British Theatre Guide

Polly Gray (Simone Damberg Würtz) his father’s much younger sister is a pivotal figure.

PEAKY BLINDERS

The Redemption of Thomas Shelby
TOUR 2024/2025
Picture
"And we immediately recognise the matriarch Aunt Polly when the dancer Simone Damberg Würtz appears on stage, bewitching like a Greta Garbo, with a leg as long and arched as the cigarette holder at her fingertips."
by Emmanuelle Bouchez for Telerama (translated from French)

"the stunning Simone Damberg Würtz as Aunt Polly, who looks every bit as classy and dangerous as the wonderful late Helen McCrory."
by Curtain Call Reviews

"Another ghost appears in voiceover, with the voice of Helen McCrory's Polly playing over her on-stage. successor (Simone Damberg Würtz, looking like McCrory with hairstyle and outfits."
by Newburry Today

"Group scenes with the dangerous,  yet intoxicating, Shelbys, including Arthur (Dylan Tedaldi) and Polly (Simone Damberg Würtz), are a visual feast, as they stomp through the factories, gamble on carousel horses, their razorblade peaks glinting in the spotlight, and slink their way through the deliciously decadent nightclub.
by Sunderland Echo

"Polly (a scene-stealing Simone Damberg Würtz)"
by Claire McArthur for A Young(ish) Perspective

"Next the horse racing empire begins led by the powerful Polly Gray played by Simone Damberg Würtz. Simon accurately conveyed the powerful and confident nature of Polly Gray through  her demeanour. and her strong precise dance moves."

"Simone Damberg Würtz gives us an instantly recognisable Polly"
by The Reviews Hub - Central

"There were several standout moments and performers in this cast for me. One of these came in a deceptively simple duet between Polly (Simone Damberg Würtz) and Ada (Adel Balint).
The stillness in their movement radiated power. Dainty but deadly, they embodied a fierce femininity that dared you to underestimate them.
Tommy Shelby might be the story's centre, but Polly? She's the one running the show."

by Katie for Theatre & Tonic

"While everyone deserves credit, and the standing ovation they got, particular mention goes to Conor Kerrigan dancing Tommy, Adél Bálint as Ada, and Simone Damberg Würtz in the role of Polly."
by Nicola Claire for Seeing Dance

A Young(ish) Perspective

In Conversation with Simone Damberg Würtz by Tabitha James

Rambert dancer Simone Damberg Würtz talks about performing in the daring and dynamic show and embodying Peaky Blinders’ Polly Gray.

As a dancer, it has been quite special; from the first moment in the studio where we didn't know what to expect, to our current return tour across the UK.
On a personal level, I am a fan of the TV Show and was always enamoured by Polly. She was my favourite character, so to be able to bring her to the stage and find out how she moves has been very interesting. Sometimes I am completely embodied by her as a character because she is so powerful...

The Visit by YY London

YY LONDON

Behind the Scenes.
The making of a film on the new and major headquarters building in London’s Canary Wharf, YY London.
Choreographed by Benoit Swan Pouffer and danced by Rambert.
It was filmed over two days whilst the building is under construction and is due to be completed in 2023.

The waterside building is 415,000 sq.ft and is one of the most innovative and environmentally responsible offices in London and is now just 7 minutes from the City.
It is being developed by Oaktree Capital and Quadrant Estates and designed by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman.

PEAKY BLINDERS

The Redemption of Thomas Shelby
UK Tour 2023
"One of the most prominent characters in terms of stature and energy was Simone Damberg Würtz’s portrayal of Polly.
You instantly recognised Helen McCrory’s infamous character with Simone radiating confidence, sass and also a caring undertone."

Theatre Scotland
"Simone Damberg Würtz’s performance as Polly is equally scene-stealing as she commands the stage with power woven with grace and beauty to match: it is hard to look anywhere else on a stage constantly full of wonderful performances."
The Reviews Hub
"Polly Gray (played by Simone Damberg Würtz) and Tommy Shelby (played by Guillaume Queau) were particularly captivating.
Simone accurately conveyed the powerful and confident nature of
Polly Gray through her demeanour and the way she danced.
Similarly, Guillaume who played Tommy captured his confidence but also his vulnerability. It was difficult not to see Guillaume as Cillian Murphy and Simone as Helen McCrory and I had to remind myself it was in fact the extremely talented Rambert Dance company."

Manchester Theatres
"Simone Damberg Würtz’s Polly is both commanding and secondary, as in the show. At one point, she and Ada revive Tommy in a somewhat sacrificial moment: sure, he’s in charge, but he’s put there because of some greater scheming effected by Polly."
Fjord

"Simone Damberg Würtz absolutely dominates as matriarch Polly."
Advertiser & Times
"Simone Damberg Würtz took on the McCrory role of the matriarch, Polly, with significant aplomb in a striking outfit with blue suede laced-up boots and a dagger strapped to her thigh (also doubling up as a doomed police inspector, shot dead by Grace)"
Graham Watts for Bachtrack
"I couldn’t keep my eyes off Simone Damberg Würtz who played Polly.
Simone embodied the character as Polly so perfectly, giving attitude as the matriarch of the Shelby family."

Eyes on Stage

"Simone Damberg Würtz takes on the role of Aunt Polly with more than a passing resemblance to Helen McCrory (the original Polly, who sadly died in 2021). The matriarch of the family, she loves and protects her boys fiercely, but has her own demons to battle. Being able to portray these character traits through dance alone is a real gift and makes for an absorbing watch."
On Magazine

"Simone Damberg Würtz is a standout as Polly,
the powerful Shelby family matriarch"

Broadway World
"The matriarch of the family, Polly played by
Simone Damberg Würtz shows incredible strength in her performance and you can certainly tell that she is head of the family"
West End Best Friend
"Simone Damberg Würtz energises the action as Tommy's glamorous aunt Polly"
The Times
"Simone Damberg Würtz is a picture as she struts around"
Seeing Dance
Picture
"These are not carbon copies of the television characters – although Simone Damberg Würtz is an appropriately fearsome Aunt Polly"
The Guardian
"Conor Kerrigan’s Arthur, Simone Damberg Würtz’s Polly and Adél Bálint’s Ada were magnificent"
Birmingham World

"We encounter members of his tight-knit family en route – including no-nonsense, machine gun-toting Polly, Simone Damberg Würtz"
The Stage

A response to “Hedgehog” by Simone Damberg Würtz.
“Hedgehog” is a micro-piece for nine isolated musicians by Yshani Perinpanayagam @yshani
Yshani sent each player an individual part with a click track, and asked them to video themselves playing it on their phone. And provided no further clues as to what it was all about...

When I saw Yshani’s Hedgehog on Twitter I immediately loved it & everything about it.
And I thought we could do this with dancers as well!

So I followed in her footsteps, and passed on the players individual tracks to nine isolated dancers around the world.
Like Yshani I provided no further clues as to what it was all about...
